We spent the second half of our week in Flic en Flac and this time we decided to indulge ourselves by booking a luxury penthouse on Airbnb. Salem (the host) definitely did a fabulous job of his place, it was spacious and tastefully decorated. I especially loved the fact that he used a lot of wood in the interior design. Our living room came with a huge balcony overlooking the mountains and we can also access the rooftop terrace to enjoy sweeping sea views.
If you rent a car like us, there are plenty of activity options in Mauritius. One of the places we drove to was Blue Bay Marine Park - famous for its super coral beds and abundant sea life. Upon reaching Blue Bay beach, there will be a couple of boat tour booths, so everything was quite straightforward and fuss-free! In just 10 mins after registering our names, we were ushered onto a glass bottom boat. The boat driver then navigated to the different areas of the marine park and highlighted the various types of corals which we could see through the glass bottom. In the last part, he'd stop the boat and we get to jump off and snorkel!
Other than snorkelling, I decided to do 2 dives with Sea Urchin Diving, first to The Aquarium and the second one joining my dad and my sister in their first try dive. This was my first time diving without Eduard and I freaked out (just a bit at the beginning haha). The currents were a bit strong that day but we got to see really cool fishes and corals. We went down to about 18.5m in depth, and visibility was pretty good!
But what my sister and I loved the most was swimming with the dolphins! We booked with Dolswim as recommended by our Airbnb host and set off on a speedboat close to Tamarin Bay. Dolswim places a huge emphasis on respect for the dolphins and this is what I really like about them. It's not just about driving recklessly and getting too close to the dolphins (which were sadly what some other tour operators were doing). Dolswim always maintain a good distance from the dolphins and only two person were allowed to jump into the waters each time.
After jumping into the water, you have to swim as fast as you can to keep up with the dolphins! It was a fun thrill and all of us really enjoyed the entire experience.. There was much laughter and adrenaline, soo if you ever go to Mauritius, this is one thing that you should not miss out on! To end off the trip, Dolswim took us to another site for snorkelling and the ride there with the speedboat was incredible - you feel almost like flying so remember to hang on tight!
At the end of the day after all the activities, nothing beats doing your own barbecue dinner at home while enjoying sunset views. Afterall, holidays are meant to be relaxing!
